Approximate date of Birth: January 1, 2022 Description: Phyllis is just the best mamma cat. I was told this was at least her 3rd possible litter so she's probably closer to 2 years old. Living on the streets, she had to find food wherever she could - so watch your trash cans and plates left on the counters! She has definitely gotten better with this as she has begun to realize she will be fed regularly. Phyllis is protective, but I think that's because she is protective of her babies. I'm hopeful that she'll relax a little more when she doesn't feel she has to worry about them. Veronica Lorena
Cat, Young, Female,
Domestic Short Hair Tortoiseshell
Cat FriendlyChildren Friendly
CatYoungFemaleDomestic Short Hair Tortoiseshell
Approximate Date of Birth: August 4, 2022 Description: Veronica is a playful loving teenager. She has been in our home for 6 weeks with her siblings. She prefers to be on her own but will snuggle with her sister Rosalia at times. She loves to wrestle with the other cats and play with balls and the scratching toy. She is very timid, but over time has started to become much more comfortable and will eventually let you pet her. She likes to roll on her back and get tummy rubs. Benito and Veronica are survivors. They stumbled into a mobile home park on a rainy night and charmed a good Samaritan into helping them get off the streets. They appeared sick with an upper respiratory infection (a cold) and were treated accordingly. Like many homeless cats, they have long term effects of untreated medical conditions, in this case, a cold. Under the expert care of Saving One Life's experienced veterinarian, it was determined that their "symptoms" were not going to resolve completely. We learned a lot about them. Veronica has a congenital defect causing or permanent malformations of her nasal passage. Because of this Veronica had extensive scarring of her eyes, including a previous rupture of her cornea that caused blindness in her left eye. However, they were perfectly healthy otherwise and loved to cuddle and play. The fact is, none of this is holding them back from being loving, wonderful kitties who deserve a nurturing home that simply understands their story. Her symptoms now include sometimes audible breathing through the nasal passage. The veterinarian does not expect that these relatively mild, but chronic symptoms will keep her from living an otherwise healthy life. The only ongoing care she needs is lysine, which is a non-prescription amino acid which helps to minimize his symptoms. It is simply sprinkled on their food at mealtime daily. Words to Describe Me: She does not meow, very quiet and gentle Favorite Place to Sleep: on a chair under the dining room table Favorite Toy: little balls Perfect Day: sleeping and playing with toys Kitty's Dislikes: she gets nervous when held, does not like being held like a baby but rather her body against yours Fastest Way to Get Me to Purr: pet my tummy When I Grow Up, I Want to Be: in a quiet household Good with Cats: Yes Good with Dogs: Unknown, but optimistic Good with Children: Loves all children Companion Animal: Preferred but not necessary Health information: All cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, FeLV / FIV tested, receive vaccinations, preventative deworming, and microchipping as appropriate for age prior to adoption. Adoption Process: Our adoptable animals are located in a loving foster home. In order to meet one of these kitties you will need to apply and be approved. Nina Grindle
Cat, Adult, Female,
Domestic Medium Hair Tuxedo
Cat FriendlyDog FriendlyChildren Friendly
CatAdultFemaleDomestic Medium Hair Tuxedo
Approximate Date of Birth: January 1, 2021 Description: Nina has lived quite an exceptional life in her two short years! In early 2022, Nina was living with a feral cat colony in El Cajon. She was scooped up by a local rescue group with a spay/neuter-release program, and was returned to her colony after a successful surgery. On a cold night in April 2022, Nina climbed into the engine compartment of a car to stay warm, unbeknownst to the owner of the vehicle. When the car was started in the morning, Nina was hit by the fan blade! The owner of the vehicle rushed Nina to Feral Cat Coalition for care. The incomparable Dr. Grindle was able to repair Nina’s front limbs, stitch up her nose, and remove her damaged eye. Saving One Life was so grateful for Dr. Grindle’s expert care, that once we accepted her into the rescue, we named Nina Grindle after her! It would be a long road to recovery for this sweet girl, but the incredible volunteer fosters and medical team with Saving One Life were up for the challenge! Nina spent the spring and early summer of 2022 resting and healing in a SOL foster home, quietly observing her foster homes daily activities from her bed, where she healed and rested. She gracefully endured daily trips to the veterinary for bandage changes, and eventually, she was ready to get used to living in a home and learning to walk! With her limited mobility while healing, Nina was a wonderful snuggle buddy for an abandoned litter of foster kittens! By summer 2022, Nina was out of her casts and exploring a new foster home. As she regained her strength, they were overjoyed to watch her blossom into her sweet, quiet self! But Nina wasn’t ready for her happily ever after just yet… Right when we thought she’d be ready for her final procedure, dental extractions for broke teeth, we discovered Nina had a heart murmur. After several echocardiograms and medical clearance she was able to have her last procedure, Nina now has a clean bill of health and is ready to find her forever home! The team at Saving One Life has poured a lot of love and care into Nina throughout her journey with us, and now we’re looking for an extra special family to love this calm, observant girl for the rest of her life–which we expect to be long, as she is only 2 years old! With her beautiful long coat, Nina will need a family who can help her with frequent brushing and affection. Nina likes most cats she’s met after a slow introduction, seems ambivalent towards most dogs, and if there are kids in her house she would prefer them to be over the age of 12 (if younger, they should be kids who can match her calm, shy energy). Nina loves curling up in a warm bed, chasing string toys, and observing her foster family’s comings and goings–especially when they stop to give her a scratch on her chin. Words to Describe Me: Shy and loving Favorite Place to Sleep: a dark place Favorite Toy: Wand toy Perfect Day: sleeping quietly Kitty's Likes: Chin Scratch Kitty's Dislikes: being on your lap Fastest Way to Get Me to Purr: Chin Scratch Favorite Treat: Churros Job Title in Foster: baby When I Grow Up, I Want to Be: healthy Good with Cats: Likes cats given a proper introduction Good with Dogs: Ambivalent towards dogs Good with Children: Can live in a house with children over the age of 12 Companion Animal: Preferred but not necessary Health information: All cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, FeLV / FIV tested, receive vaccinations, preventative deworming, and microchipping as appropriate for age prior to adoption. Adoption Process: Our adoptable animals are located in a loving foster home. In order to meet one of these kitties you will need to apply and be approved.
